No Man’s Land

No Man’s Land was inspired by the recent 100 year anniversary of the battle at Gallipoli . The tesserae represent the thousands of soldiers in their trenches, some brave, some timid, but all draining of colour the closer they get to going over the top into no man’s land, a name given to the land separating the Anzacs and the Turks. The transparent red smalti is a symbol of the resulting bloodshed.
